Giffords Path to Recovery

US politician Gabrielle Giffords may be unable to return to work following her traumatic brain injury after being shot in the head at a supermarket in Arizona. She remains in critical condition as she was placed into an induced coma as her body recovers from the event. Giffords surviving a bullet to the brain is an unlikely event as it is an injury that many do not live to tell.

The three-term Democrat is expected to live and has been making tremendous progress.  There have been reports of Giffords’ ability to communicate with her hands which suggests that she may have the ability in the future to communicate verbally. Giffords can breathe on her own, respond to voice commands and even make small spontaneous motions.

Traumatic brain injuries that are caused by bullet wounds include damage directly caused by the bullet to tissue, and indirect damage to neurons caused by the shockwave throughout the whole organ. Although it is known that the bullet hit Giffords’ left hemisphere, the area that controls language, it is unknown exactly how her recovery will go. Traumatic brain injuries are often unpredictable and have long recovery periods.

Many who experience traumatic brain injuries seek compensation for unpredictable recovery costs and time. If you or a loved one is suffering from a TBI call LegalView today to learn more about your options from a brain injury lawyer. Call 1-866-9LAW-NOW (1-866-952-9669).
